Usher rocks Billboard Magazine with Lusso

Not even two weeks before Usher’s new album comes out, Usher comes clean on the struggles of being an artist and what he’s been up to in this weeks issue of Billboard.

Anthony Mandler photographed Usher for his publicity and art, and worked with Joe Puleio at Lusso Lab to finalize the images.

kwaku alston wins 1st place in PDN SELF-promo awards

I wanted to take some time to acknowledge a good friend of mine, Kwaku Alston. I’ve known Kwaku for many years now and I was very proud to see PDN (Photo District News) acknowledging his hard work. Self-promotion, websites, ads, postcards, politicking, hand pressing - is hard work. It is very rare that someone can tie everything together and make it an experience. It’s makes looking for a photographer or viewing a friends work refreshing, interesting, and fun. His site, promos, blog, and even iPhone app is so smart and creative - I really think it is a lesson in self-promotion and a great example of how you can subtly promote yourself without over doing it.

I have worked with Kwaku on a couple projects, but only occasionally. I did not work on his website or photos seen here. I am posting this because I was happy to see him honored.
He continues to be a good friend and a source of constant inspiration. I always value his opinion
and view on the industry and on life.

I encourage you to check out his site, which is incredibly comprehensive and thorough, and I hope you will continue to look for his work on billboards, in magazines, and practically everywhere. Personally, I always love seeing his work and often smile and think, “I can’t believe he shot him”, or, “Wow, I wonder what that was like...”

Lusso Lab covers Billboard with Mary and Mandler

On the eve of Mary J. Blige’s new album release, she graces the cover of Billboard Magazine.

The shoot, by Anthony Mandler, consists of some truly amazing, intricate sets. Mary just pops out of these environments and exudes a stunning elegance. We worked very closely with Anthony and the designers at Interscope/Geffen to make sure they would undoubtedly become timeless, classic photos capturing her grace.

Lusso works with randall slavin for stellar danes shoot

I really enjoy Angeleno. I have had the pleasure of retouching quite a few of their covers and they always print very accurately.
It is very rewarding to see exactly what you envisioned printed perfectly.

Randall killed it on this shoot. It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Claire Danes. I have always been a fan. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her shot this way.
